The new traffic plan introduced in Kandy this morning (July 24) has been temporarily suspended, said Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Gamini Navaratne. The new plan had contributed to a worsening of the traffic jam in the hill capital, he said.

However, on the positive side, the unsuccessful plan for Kandy town has afforded the opportunity to identify several reasons for the traffic congestion and take meaningful steps to eliminate them, Senior DIG Navaratne said.

According to Mr. Navaratne, a revised traffic plan will be introduced in Kandy very soon.
