Wednesday Jul 21, 2010 The water level of the Mahaweli Ganga downstream of the Kotmale dam will rise as the sluice gates are to be opened in a few hours, says the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
The DMC warns those around the river downstream of the Kotmale dam and those using the river to be careful while carrying their activities.
Several reservoirs have reached spill level due to the heavy rains in the Nuwara eliya District and officials managing the dams have advised the DMC to alert the people in the particular areas, says Nuwara eliya District Disaster Management official Eranda Premawardena.
