A lady doctor who was receiving treatment at the Badulla general hospital for dengue had died today. Dr. Lakmali Wijenayake, was receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit when the illness claimed her life.

Although official sources reveal that the number of deaths due to dengue is 132, it is feared that the actual number maybe more. At present 19,722 dengue patients are receiving hospital treatment. The Colombo Emergency unit  has a large number of patients with fever and it is suspected that dengue maybe the main cause.
