Three people have begun a fast to death on top of Sigiriya demanding authorities to take the necessary steps regarding the protection of the historic Sigiriya Rock fortress.

The protesters demanded that legal action be taken against those responsible for issuing permits for the construction of lavatories and canteens at Sigiriya premises.

Among their demands they have also requested that Sigiriya which is controlled by Central Cultural Fund to be taken under the wing of the Archeological department.

Further reports claim that two out of the three protesters belong to the ‘Sigiriya Protection Organisation’ while the other is a resident ofKandy. They have thoroughly stated that they will not quit their fast until their demands are made.
