Gampaha District Parliamentarian and Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that recently he had sent a Provincial Council official to photograph the number of garbage heaps along the Negombo-Colombo road from Ja-ela to the Colombocity limits. The official had photographed 167 major dumps.

Though there might be more dumps, for those identified, if two Provincial Councillors were given in charge, and they use their creative ideas, the garbage problem can be solved, said Economic Development Minister Basil Rohana Rajapaksa, addressing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Bala Mandala meeting held this afternoon at the residence of former Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle’s residence.

Critics always question how Sri Lanka could be transformed into Asia’s Miracle. This task is not impossible if each person performs his or her tasks properly, Minister Rajapaksa added.

He also said that he plans to get the assistance of those responsible to rid the city and suburbs of the garbage menace.

Gampaha District Member of Parliament and late Jeyaraj Fernandopulle’s wife Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena were among those who attended the meeting.
